Joshua12-15

I like Patricia's post today, so I am going to borrow hers for our edification....the only thing I would add is did you notice that in 13: 22, our buddy Balaam who had the talking donkey, was finally "taken out" for practicing divination?  Also, note Othniel from Chapter 15, who will be one of the first Judges (our next chapter) and yes Bonnie, I'm afraid that Caleb's daughter marries Caleb's brother.....

So here's Patricia's post:

I know, not a fascinating read, but there were a few parts that caught my eye.
Thirty One Kings are defeated.  Almost the whole land was conquered.  Almost.  Ummm, this might be a problem from what we learned of yesterday’s read. But the Israelites did not drive out the people of Geshur and Maacah, so they continue to live among the Israelites to this day.  (13:13)
So if you actually go all the way back to Genesis 49, the land is being distributed exactly as said during Jacob’s blessings.  In Genesis,  it talked about the Levites being scattered (they get 48 scattered cities), and 6 cities of refuge.  Reuben’s tribe gets land that is Desert, because he slept with his father’s concubine (see we always have to deal with sin eventually).  Ephraim and Manessah’s tribes, from the line of Joseph get excellent land, for their loyalty.  And Judah, who offered his life in exchange for Benjamin’s when Joseph was in Egypt, they receive the largest portion of land.
Caleb, the only other man who had Faith besides Joshua, when  the 12 spies when in to survey the land was remembered by the men.  Back in Kadesh Barnea 45 years ago it was said:
But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it. (Nu 14,24)
Here is a map to help.  Locate the Dead sea and the Sea of Galilee. The Jordan River connects the 2.  The right side is the Transjordan Tribes we have talked about.  Also note right above the Dead sea is familiar names, Shittim, Jericho, Gilgal, Mitzpah.  If you keep notes or a file, let me know I can e-mail you the map.
