Deuteronomy overview

I just love the name Deuteronomy......I think of the musical, "Cats" and that is what one of the main characters name was.....However:

This word in the Greek actually means "Second Law".     Moses is showing the Isrealites all the good things that God has done for them.    This is an excellent practice for our human nature that gets caught up in the day to day.

The is the last book that Moses writes-and scholars feel that the end of the book is written by Joshua, due to Moses' death.

Biblical Terms:

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy are sometimes referred to as:
  • the "Five Books of Moses," because the writings themselves identify the author as Moses, or
  • the "Pentateuch," a Greek term meaning "pente (5) teuchos (volumes)," or
  • the "Books of the Law", or
  • the "Torah" (a Hebrew word meaning "instruction")
These books were originally written as a single unbroken scroll. Sometime before the 2nd Century BCE, it was divided into the 5 books that we see today.

    My bible says Deuteronomy is a series of farewell messages by Moses. It opens with review of forty years in desert to promised land. he did not want new generation to forget the disobience of earlier generation.
