1 Corinthians 12-14

Paul teaches about Spiritual gifts...the Corinthians considered some spiritual gifts better than others and were lording it over others.   Spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit to build up the body of Christ.  Spiritual gifts are not for US.   If we do not use them, they are a complete loss to what God intended for His body.  All members of the body have to work together to make a fully functioning body.  Each member of the body has a different function in order to do that.

Paul points out that love is the most excellent way....The greatest is love

Gifts of prophecy and tongues were definitely given.   The tongues were a prayer language.  Paul says that this can be distracting in worship if not used without interpretation.  If someone stands up and shows off, this serves no purpose in building up the body of Christ.   If God has a message for the whole body and the person with the interpretation is there, all is well....tongues are  a sign for unbelievers, prophecy is for believers. (Acts 2)  Prophecy is not simply predicting the future, it is sharing the message of salvation.

Paul says that God is not a God of disorder, but of peace, therefore there should be order in the worship service and not all the wildness that the Corinthians were doing.
