Solomon becomes King....Adonijah tried to get the throne, as he was next in line after
Absolom....he got Joab's support and Abiathar the priest. Joab thinks only about conquests unfortunately, and not the big picture...
Nathan the prophet knew that God wanted Solomon and went to Bathsheba, Solomon's mother and alerted her of Adonijah's scheme. He and Bathsheba figured out how to alert David. Adonihjah asks for Abishag. This is the virgin that took care of David in his old age.......this wasn an acceptable custom. However, Adonihjah was in effect, asking to take over....if you take a King's concubine or wife you are trying to take over the throne.
Joab is killed finally and Abiathar was demoted.....Solomon is again uniting the kingdom. Solomon fufills the prophecy of what the Lord spoke at Shiloh about the house of Eli....see 1 Samuel 2:27-36.
