Exodus 10-12

..so much in these chapters!   The Locusts descend in Egypt.....note that the Lord says in Exodus 10:2 that the signs are to be told to the Isrealite descendents, SO THAT THEY MAY KNOW HE IS THE LORD.   Only God can do these things, not the gods of Egypt.

The Plague of Darkness was creepy. 10:21 calls it "darkness that can be felt".....and then the Pharaoh banishes Moses from his presence.

Critical Hebrew history happens with the Plague on the Firstborn....this is so that (verse 6)  there is a distinction between Egypt and Isreal.  Passover tradition begins.  The Isrealites had to take a perfect lamb (innocent...Jesus) and sacrifice it at twilight....the sacrifice foreshadows Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.  Twilight is the same time that Jesus died (3:00).  The blood of the lamb is placed over the door of the Isrealite homes, and when the destroyer (angel of death) sees it, he will stay away from that home.  Verse 24 tells us that this is a lasting ordinance for the Isrealites and their descendents.  Then the Exodus begins.  Pharaoh is griefsticken at the loss of his son and during the night summons Moses and Aaron and says, "Get up and leave"....the people took the bread without yeast (bread is a major part of their diet) and asked the Egyptians for silver and gold  (God is still in control, for he makes the Egyptians open and accepting of giving the Isrealites silver and gold) and left quickly.

The Lord gave Passover restrictions to keep this commemoration for the Isrealites.

Can you imagine 2 million people packing up quickly and leaving?  This is a huge exodus.

A huge piece of Hebrew history has begun....this story is in the bible because it is a story of redemption.....it is the central theme of the Bible.  Redemption means "to buy back" or "to save from captivity by paying a ransom"   Ultimately, God pays the ransom of his Son to save us from sin....we have been bought back when we invited Jesus into our life...we are freed from the deadly consequence of sin, which is death.....we are to trust Him and accept his gift of eternal life.  Our sins have been paid for......can we really even wrap our heads around that?   This is more than HUGE.
