Job 1-5

Pretty cool that Job was blameless and upright like Noah....I was interested in that the angels came to present themselves to the Lord and Satan came with them....my study Bible said that the Bible speaks of other heavenly councils where God and the angels plan their activities on earth and where angels are required to give account of themselves (ie 1 Kings 22-19-23)....

I am having a hard time with the Lord saying to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job?"....I hope that it is just a language translation, but to me it seems that God offered him up to Satan.  Yuck.....and do you think that Job and his friends really talked that way...in poetry...now you must realize that I don't care for poetry, so I have a bias going.   David wrote some beautiful Psalms...I guess I just prefer some "real" conversation...

Marilyn Meberg mentions in her book, "Tell me everything"...that pain can be a big disconnector from God....her mother went through it and through intense pain and suffering she felt like God was gone for her....I wonder what I would do if I was covered in boils and scraping my skin with a piece of pottery like Job......would my faith go the way of Job, or would I disconnect?    Humbling......

Let's see how Job fares with his friends in Job 6-9 for tomorrow....

  1. I am like you.....kinda hard to believe that God offered Job to Satan.....but my Bible says that God puts a limit on the amount of adversity to come our way. I bet it was hard for Job to continue to trust in God, and at times he sounds like he begins to doubt....but he was going thru serious adversity......and we all say things and doubt when we face something difficult....but we have to learn to trust in God and know that this will pass.....

Was this done to Job to teach future mankind to always have faith in God and to know that all events, good and bad, serve as a purpose for us?

  2. An observation for you....did you notice that Job had the role of priest in his family, making sacrifices for his children and unintentional sin. I would love to know how he got his knowledge. Obviously, God doesn't consider this something to be revealed in detail, but how cool that Job had exposure as head of the family to be acting priest. He was also in right standing with God. This is before any of the priesthood or Jewish traditions began to be in existence. God's plan is already in place. Tradition says Job was probably the first book in the Bible, but definitely written during the time of the Patriarch's that we will begin to meet tomorrow.

  3. Ok my weird way of thinking. Did God offer up Job to Satan because he knew that Job would continue to trust in God therefor he was teaching Satan that he was the supreme power, creator etc..??

  4. Not a weird way of thinking at all! God knows how it is all going to turn out. He knows what Job will choose. Because of the devil, there is a supernatural battle of good and evil going on all the time. The devil is trying to get all the people he can away from eternal life. Revelation tells us that the devil is FURIOUS because his time grows short. Now, what I often wonder is why the devil continues with this plot when he knows he will be defeated. I just don't get it.....
