2 Kings 22-23' 2 Chronicles 34-35

We meet King Josiah...finally a good king who swept religious reform across the nation.  Hilkiah, the high priest finds the book of the law (we don't know if it is just Deuteronomy, or all 5 books of the law).  Can you imagine it being gone for that long?   Any similarity if we keep our Bible on the shelf?  (Hilkiah might be the prophet Jeremiah's father, so tuck that name away).  Josiah tore his robes in grief that they had strayed so far...he seeks God by going to the prophetess Huldah and got the prophecy of destruction....it would not happen in Josiah's time.....Josiah renews the covenant and all the foreign idols were destroyed.  The Passover is to be observed in the 18th year of Josiah's reign.  Even our good king did not consult with the Lord and took Pharoah Neco kills King Josiah in battle....Jehoahaz steps into power and is evil.  How can this be after such a good king?   Do you think Josiah was so busy that he didn't teach the prince?   Take warning about teaching children....it is so important to teach them in God's ways.   Jeremiah composes laments that Josiah dies, and this prophet begins to come on the scene......

  1. I am glad we finally have a good king......question......where was the book they brought to him and who had it? Why was it not used for so long?

  2. The Book of the Law was in the temple....trouble was that Manasseh allowed the idols to infiltrate the temple and even had an Asherah pole in the temple....if people were even going to the temple, they weren't concerned about God's Law...they were not celebrating Passover either. Amon, Josiah's father was an evil king and spread evil for two years before he was assassinated.....The Book of the Law was right where it should have been, I suspect....just ignored....
