2 kings 9-11

Elisha appoints one of the prophets to anoint Jehu  as King over Israel....yes, we have gone back in time as we read these particular scriptures.  Jehu kills Joram and Ahaziah fulfilling the scripture that all of Ahab's family would be killed (1 kings 2: 17-24).  Jezebel is killed as we read in prior scriptures (gives a whole new meaning to your life going to the dogs, doesn't it?  LOL).

The rest of Ahab's family is rounded up (70 royal princes) to be killed and 2 Kings 10:17 completes the prophecy.

The ministers of Baal are killed...Jehu destroys the idols of Baal but not the golden calves.....Jehu therefore does not obey God with is whole heart....verse 32 tells us that God began to reduce the size of Israel.  Jehu dies and Jehoahaz suceeds him as king.....

Chapter 11 is all about Athaliah and Johash......Athaliah kills all her grandchildren so she  can be queen....she doesn't realize that Johash is saved an hidden from her....Jehoiada, the high priest as to get the right person on the throne and aids in an uprising to take the throne from Athaliah.....Jehoida is successful, and we get Joash, a seven year old king!!!

Whew!   Power certainly corrupts...I have read about the English dynasty of Kings and Queens, and it is amazing that you can kill whole families off so that you don't have to worry about them taking the throne....rather bloodthirsty...our lesson is that if God wants you to rule, you will and you will be blessed if you are obedient.  If you are not obedient, God can easily dethrone you...Lots of responsibility comes with this power and the main responsibility is to follow God and His ways...
