2 Kings 5-8

OK.....I wake up in the morning and the first thing I want to do is see what is happening in the readings of the Bible....strangely, I don't do that when it is poetic!!!!  I suppose that is why there are all kinds of styles to appeal to all the different personalities that God made...

Naaman is healed of leprosy....I crack up because of the royal treatment he expects......he is used to status and people looking up to him...have you ever felt that way in anything?  Perhaps you expected someone to greet you with ceremony or acknowledge you in a crowd, but when you are lumped in with everyone, you feel sort of slighted?

Naaman finally gets this and asks for forgiveness when he has to take his master to the temple of Rimmon to bow down...he leans on Naaman's arm and therefore Naaman bows, but does not want it to be considered an act of reverence....Gehazi gets greedy and goes after the gifts of Naaman.   (Elisha had refused them)....Scary....."Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you?  Is this the time to take  money, or to accept clothes, olvie groves, vineyards, flocks, herds. or menservants and maidservants".....Yikes!    Those gifts of prophecy are surely getting annoying to Gehazi and he gets leprosy as a judgment.

I love the fact that in Chapter 6, there is a company of prophets.....they are experiencing what our church is, and the place where they meet is too small for them!  Elisha makes an axhead float (surely one of my relatives lost it in the first place!)

Elisha traps blinded Arameans....this is great because it reveals that there is so much going on in the supernatural world.......heavenly beings are fighting all around for us....

There is then famine in Samaria (Capital of Israel) and even people are eating their children (this was predicted in Deuteronomy 29: 49-57 because prices for food have gone up....Elisha predicts the prices will go back down and they do.....Elisha predicts the death of "the officer on whose arm the king was leaning" (and who is this?)

The siege is lifted....four men with leprosy go into the city (expressly forbidden) and take the spoils...they then report it to the city gatekeepers out of guilt and indeed the prices of food go down and "the officer on whose arm the king leaned" died...

Elisha looks out for the Sunammite Widow and her land is restored.....Hazael murders Ben-Hadad, takes over as king and is evil in the eyes of the Lord........
