Chapter 22 explains why judgement is coming.....Judah still didn't believe they were being punished for what they had done themselves and God gives them plenty of evidence. God tries to purify them, but there is only dross...impurities....there is no precious metal that comes out of this process, in other words, Jerusalem was worthless. The priests and leaders are held to a higher standard because people follow them...they especially will be punished for leading the people astray.
Chapter 23 is intense....would God get your attention if he accuses you of "whoring" around? What an insult...but what if it is true? What if you are accused of unfaithfulness to your husband? What if you are found doing horribly unclean things? What if you had not even tried to hide the dirty things you did because you had grown used to it....after all, everyone else was doing it, so surely it wasn't all that bad...would you be embarrassed? taken aback? mad? shocked? Would you confess and take responsibility? Would you blame others for what you had done? Would you try to get out of it?
God is going to make sure that people know that He is God. The people can do it the easy way or the hard way, but they are going to know that He is God and that there is NO ONE LIKE HIM....
