Ezekiel 18-19

After all of this, the people of Israel thought they were being punished for the sins of their fathers....Far be it from them to see that the sins were there own.  The people of Israel also thought that since their ancestors had a covenant, that they themselves were saved and could essentially do what they want.  God was explaining through Ezekiel that we may have consequences from previous generations, but that God won't punish us for someone elses's sins.....we will however, be punished for our own.  God gives us a choice between life and death (both physically and spiritually)..the choice is ours and we must remember that God is a just God.  He takes no pleasure in anyone's death.  He wants us to pick life.  We have life if we let God be in control.

Chapter 19 is a lament (remember Lamentations?) .  Ezekiel is creative with his examples.   The lioness is Judah, and the cubs were two of its kings.  This story shows that there is no quick release from exile....the Babylonian army was coming.....Ezekiel laments this....captivity....what is the captivity in your life?  Do you have any?
