Captivity Overview

World powers took the people into captivity.  They were slaves in some cases...the were exposed to a different way of life.  There are some major captivity themes in the Bible.  How could you possibly apply this to today's culture...come on...be creative.

  1. Ok....I may be way off but gonna try:

how could we be held captive today.
    1. By society telling us what is right and wrong, acceptable and not acceptable instead of what God is telling us.
    2. by being concerned about what others will say when we stand up for our beliefs instead of what God will think when we do this.
    3. by media.....media, TV, radio, etc. gives idea of what we want to see, hear, and push shock value......we know many of the songs, ads, shows, etc. are morally unaceeptable, but watch or listen to anyway.
    4. government has become one to do what is popular for votes instead of what is popular by God.....many laws and actions of govt are shameful.
5.Fear: We are told in the bible in Luke (aren't you proud I can say where....just read that in Beth Moore)....we are told to love our neighbor as ourself and our neightbor is anyone who may be broken, needs help, hungry, hurt, abandoned......we should be helpful, kind, and compassionate to all people.....but, many find it hard to do because of fear of what these people may do to us and because so many simply want hand outs and not to earn. We live in such a violent society, it really is fearful to help some.

Am I even on the right track of what you were thinking of?

  2. thought of another one...
    6. by our addictions....whether drugs, alcohol, gambling, shopping, money, ....they consumer so much of our time and energy that we can't focus on a relationship with God

  3. Yep....you got it.....it is "wrong thinking" and making choices all about us....anything where God is not first...captivity to me is that your mind is trapped...God is freedom and if we don't think that we can so easily be trapped in a captivity state of mind.....
