1 Chronicles really supplements 2 Samuel....it emphasizes the religious history of Judah and Israel. Genealogy was extremely important to the Jewish people because gave them the link to the promise, they felt.....the direct link to Abraham. we haven't met Ezra yet, who according to Jewish tradition, wrote this book. Isreal will be going into captivity in Babylon cue to their disobedience, and Ezra will lead them home.
Pretty interesting that the ruler's of Edom are listed....they are not part of David's line. Esau was Issac's oldest son....but his link with pagan women shows the enemy genealogy...this is how Edom began.
Remember Amalek in 1:36? He was Esau's grandson and was the ancestor of the Amalekites, the first people to attack the Israelites on the way to the Promised Land......Esau certainly provided a lot of trouble to the Israelites, as was prophesized to Hagar, his mother.
1:34 mentions Esau and Israel. Remember that Jacob was renamed Israel. Israel will refer to the Nothern kingdom and Judah will refer to the southern kingdom.....the tribes were not unified and David was king of Judah first.....
Happy Easter ....hope to see ya at sunrise service....
