So, how about a New Year's Resolution that you don't have to do by yourself. I borrowed the idea, because my boss and his Prayer Partner have started early and are traveling through the Bible together and holding each other accountable. I started thinking about how I love Bible study....I facilitate all the time and it is so cool when I find stuff and think, "So that is where that is from" or , "I didn't know that was in there"....I'm serious.....this good little former Lutheran church girl had no idea there was a talking donkey in the Bible....or that Daniel isn't just about the Lion's den.....God's finger suspends in front of a King and writes on the wall....I'm totally serious.
So, find a Bible translation you like, and let's go through the Bible together. You can always find a reason not to, so suck it up and get over it, because the time is now. I shall overcome my lack of joy at the poetic books like Psalms.....I can get through all the "begatting" . We can do this and find some real treasures, because we can converse about it and pray for our spiritual understanding. Let's learn together.....
I think it's an awesome idea. I actually made a personal challenge to myself and started about a month ago. I've got an app on my droid phone where I can choose from many different versions as well as many different plans that are already out there (or I could just read and not follow a specific plan). I chose to follow the chronological plan. I haven't got very far yet, but I just thought it would be neat to see things in the order that they happened (not necessarily in the order that they are printed in our Bibles). It will be great to know that I'm not the only one on this journey!!
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestion, Susan. You inspired me to search the Web, and I selected a chronological NIV reading plan that I will begin January 1. What I selected is free and on ewordtoday.com. You can select from tons of versions of the Bible, and select your start date for your plan. You can then click on a live link to get your "reading assignment" on line. I think I'm going to start soon in case I get behind later...you know...make a deposit to keep on schedule. Genesis 1-3 is the target for January 1.
ReplyDeleteConnor and I were at Barnes and Noble today. Darned if I didn't see an NIV chronological bible...pretty cool....lots of tools out there to do this...
ReplyDeleteHi Carol! Looking forward to traveling with you on this journey. What is the link for the NIV Chronological reading plan you selected?
ReplyDeleteI look forward to this! I have been thinking of it and this is a great way for me to do this....Happy New Year!
